Custom Signature Drink Signs

I’m always very excited when I have a wedding planner reach out to me to ask about day-of stationery. It’s 100% my favorite thing to add calligraphy to. After almost a year of very few weddings, it’s all the more thrilling for me. One of my favorite sister wedding planning team reached out about some escort cards and a signature drink sign. It has been a while since I’ve done a drink sign, but I do enjoy working with them. Painting glassware and imitating metallic surfaces are a challenge in watercolor. And this sign had both: a martini and a Moscow mule. I started by sketching out two options for the couple to review. Below is my approved sketch.

I do enjoy seeing how my sketches become the polished final piece. They are a good way to loosely put ideas on paper without aiming for perfection. The main idea elements are here: wedding colors of scarlet red and black, calligraphy, drink names, and the drinks.

I painted the two drinks separately, larger than the size I needed. It allows me to capture a little more detail, like the little red sprinkles on the rim of the martini glass or the bumps on the lime rind. The wedding cake martini is a white drink, so I used a pale blue-gray to add dimension to the glass. My first version was a little too pale, so I needed to add a little more so it would scan properly.

While my watercolor dried, I picked up my pointed pen, mixed some scarlet ink, and got to writing. Once everything was dry, each piece was digitized so I could assemble and scale each element on the sign. The drink names were added, and it was ready to send as a digital proof.

Now this custom signature drink sign is ready to be framed and adorn their cocktail hour bar.

After the fun I had putting this together, I decided to open them up to all Christine Kirby Studios couples! Without further ado…

…I’m very excited to unveil these as a new addition to the Stationery Shop. These signs are great to have on or near your bar during cocktail hour to share your favorite drink with your guests. Whether your drink has been your go-to beverage since college or is being custom crafted for your special day, show off your cocktail creativity in style to your guests.

Each sign is custom created with watercolor illustrations of your beverages of choice and spot calligraphy in colors to match your wedding seamlessly.

Because everything is custom made for your wedding, it can take 4-6 weeks to turnaround, from sketch to printing. The 8x10 sized signs are great for framing. The 12x16 size is printed as a wrapped canvas. Being larger means it can be on an easel next to the bar and be and on canvas means it can be wiped down if there are any spills. Additionally, it would be a great look in your kitchen or near your spirts at home after your wedding.

Signature drink signs don’t include venue illustrations, crests, or monograms. However, if you’d like to include one of those, please reach out. These do require a longer lead time, so the sooner we get started working, the better!

Interested in learning more? Keep reading below and you’ll be walked through the design process:

Step One:

When you head over to the Stationery Shop, you’ll be able to add a custom signature drink sign to your cart. You will receive an email with a custom signature drink sign questionnaire. Be ready to share all about your drink and wedding details, because I’m ready to read all about it! The more details you include, the better the initial sketches will be.

Step 2:

Once I receive your order and questionnaire, I will send you two sketches to review before putting paintbrush to paper. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback and direction on the sketches, and I’ll get to work on creating the illustrations and details for your sign. After it’s all put together, you’ll receive a digital proof to review.

Step 3:

You give the thumbs up and your sign goes to print! After it’s printed, I’ll do a QC check. Provided everything looks good, your sign will be wrapped and signed to you. (Unless you happen to be local and would like to arrange for local pickup.)
