Custom Communion Invitations

I love that no matter the event, when it’s something truly important and worth celebrating, stationery is king. Not only does it get all the important details to your guests in their hands (and on their refrigerator doors!), it sets the tone for the type of event you’re hosting. When they receive beautifully addressed envelopes that contain Instagram-worthy invitations with bespoke details, they know this will be an event to remember!

Earlier this year, one of my neighbors reached out to me about creating invitations for her son’s upcoming First Holy Communion. She told me that in New York, where she’s originally from, First Communions are elaborate events akin to “mini weddings.” I remember my First Communion and said that it would be a great honor to work with her on these.

Together, we started out knowing they should have some kind of organic watercolor in greens and blues (her son’s favorite color is green, so that was a must-include!) with hints of gold. As soon as I showed her the sketch, she was in love. I got to working on creating the invitations (which were double sided - the back has a photograph of her son) and before we knew it, they went to print. They were mailed out in these stunning aquamarine envelopes.

Shortly after the invitations were mailed out, we turned toward the reception. After RSVPs were returned, the blue and green watercolors made a return. Each were hand-painted and adorned with gold calligraphy. Table numbers were created to match; favor tags were custom cut and printed with emerald calligraphy to thank guests for attending. And finally, a total of fifteen candy bar signs, were designed with the blue and green watercolor theming. As most seven-year old boys in 2021, he has a great love for all things Star Wars, so we were able to bring some fun into the candy bar sign names. The fonts used were similar to those from the movies, and so for that reason, I’m opting not to include them here. And to close out any great affair, Thank You cards were designed, printed, and sent out to guests.
